If your goal is to become CA, then the main problems and challenges you should be concerned about and working on are the ones that will actually help you in becoming CA.
As mentioned in this article, you can handle the unnecessary problems that you face in Articleship in two broad ways: external solutions and internal solutions.
The external solutions are the ones that can potentially create positive changes in your work environment and such changes are visible to you and others. The internal solutions are the ones that cause positive changes within you and they can be felt by you and others.
1. React to the problems (of mistreatment, exploitation and abuse).
Lash out at the person or people doing wrong to you in your work environment. This is the quickest result producing solution, likely providing you with the immediate relief from the pressures of the various unnecessary problems that you have been facing in your work environments.
2. Complain to the authority.
If your firm hierarchy contains partners on the top, and then manager, senior, down to the fresher, then as a fresher, you can complain about your senior to your manager, you can complain about the manager to the partner, and about the partner to the ICAI. Mistreatment, exploitation and abuses can be the grounds of your complaints. This may not provide you with immediate result but if you can hold your ground, you may eventually get the justice.
3. Wish not to see the problems at all.
Do not see the person or the people in your work environment who wronged you. Stop going to work, take transfer, or quit CA, and you will not see or face such problems at all.
I don’t recommend the above, external solutions because they are reactive approaches towards solving your problems. They are always the best solutions to your problems. Doing the above most likely land you up in additional problems which could be bigger than what you have been facing in your work environment.
Internal Solutions – The Mindset Change:
The focus on solving your problems under this approach is on yourself and not in your work environment. This problem-solving approach is based on the premise that you cannot control other people’s behaviour toward you, but you can train your mind to be unaffected by the negative behaviours of others toward you.
1. Learn to deal with the negative thoughts and feelings.
How do you replace the negative thoughts and feelings with the positive ones? Whenever I was overtaken by negative thoughts and feelings, I had a book by my side, reading which my negative thoughts disappeared instantly and I felt better immediately. Author Rhonda Byrne’s book, The Magic, did the job of replacing the negative thoughts and feelings with the positive ones.
Reading The Magic is a must if you are constantly overtaken by negative thoughts and feelings. Reading this book will, most likely, instantly help you shift your thoughts and feelings to the positive sides of your life and situations, and you will likely be surprised at how quickly this positive shift in your thoughts and feelings happen.
In her book, The Magic, Rhonda Byrne has written short chapters which help you deal with the negativity resulting from the various aspects of your life. Whenever you are overtaken by negativity, five minutes of reading the relevant chapter from this book will likely change the way you feel and think toward the positive sides. 2. Learn to differentiate between your situation and your responses to it.
You cannot control your situations, but you can be in control of your responses to any situation. Trying to control your situation, or other people’s behaviours toward you will most likely end up frustrating you. What you can do instead is, to train your mind on how to respond, to your situations or to other people’s behaviours toward you, in better ways so that you don’t continue to keep affecting by difficult situations and difficult people.
3. Learn to tap your inspiration on daily basis.
The problems and challenges that you face are as a result of your pursuits in life. The problems that you are facing in your Articleship, apart from other people’s behaviours and actions, they also came in existence in your life as a result of your choice to pursue the CA course. If you did not pursue the CA course, you would not face the problems generally faced in Articleship because there is no Articleship when you don’t pursue CA.
Hence, instead of being taken over by the problems and challenges in your daily life, get your mind to focus back on your dreams / goals / ambitions / pursuits. Recall and reflect on all the positive reasons that led you to pursue CA. Be inspired by them. Make such a recalling and reflecting, your daily habit.
4. Learn to be indifferent towards the unnecessary problems in CA.
If your goal is to become CA, then the main problems and challenges you should be concerned about and working on are the ones that will actually help you in becoming CA. They should be passing your CA exams on time and finishing your Articleship successfully.
Any other problems and challenges you face during your Articleship, they are unnecessary to your goal of becoming CA. Instead of reacting to unnecessary problems and challenges in your CA course, try and practice psychological and emotional indifference toward them. Train your mind and emotions to remain unaffected by them, and instead be focussed on your goal of becoming CA.
The internal solutions are all about developing your mindset (thoughts, feelings, emotions, attitudes etc.) to be unaffected by the various unnecessary pressures and problems and challenges that come in the way of your goal of finishing your Articleship successfully and going on to become CA. This approach is to help you remain focussed on your goal of becoming CA no matter what your situations during your CA course.
